We will be performing a play from our Open Court reading program this Friday at 12:30. Please join us and enjoy a performance by the first graders.
The first graders accomplished their spelling goal last week and we will celebrate with a special treat tomorrow.
March 21-25 spelling words: lick, pick, sock, luck, like, bike, hike, woke, joke
March 14-18 spelling words: ran, sit, win, not, can, let, man, net, cut, hot. This week if the whole class gets all the spelling words correct I will reward them with a treat.
March 7-10 spelling words: write, wrap, wrong, wrinkle, wrist, phone, phase, phony, graph, paragraph
February 28-March 4 spelling words: thought, fought, bought, giggle, wiggle, saw, paw, draw, claw, raw. The first graders took a unit test today and will be taking weekly lesson tests for the rest of the year. I am preparing them for second grade reading expectations by reviewing first grade reading strategies and giving weekly tests. I want to be sure they are prepared for the challenges of second grade reading.

Week of February 14: NO SPELLING
We have started using our anthology books and we read The Itsy Bitsy Spider last week, and we are reading The Kite this week.
February 7-11 spelling words: knew, use, pure, pew, cute, few, kite, frog, toad, fly.
Today we read a story titled: The Library Trip. It was about a boy and his grandpa going to the library to read about all the different places the boy wanted to visit. This would be a great week to take a family trip to the library.
January 24-28 Spelling words: boy, toy, joy, soy, coin, join, point, coil, boil, soil.
I have decided to include a first grade reading page to communicate with all of you. I will post the weekly spelling words on here and include some things we are working on in reading. I hope this will help you work with your child on reading skills at home.
Jan. 18th spelling words: know, knock, knot, knit, knee, knight, knead, knew.
This week we are using the kn spelling and practicing oo sounds such as: shook and look.
We will finish reading our big book story Me on the Map. We will work on a new big book story called The Plane Trip.
